Optical distortion tests. The purpose of this test is to verify that the distortion of objects as seen through the windscreen is not of such extent as to be likely to confuse the driver.
The standard projector is used for autoglass optical tests requiring 90mm focal lenght. Different powers are available, as well as slides.
ECE-R43 regulations Annex 3 paragraph 9.2
It is used in a projection method which permits evaluation of the optical distortion of a safety glazing.
It comprises a projector of a good quality, with a high intensity light source. A slide is projected onto the display screen through the safety glazing being tested.
- Projector with high intensity light source
- Focal length 90 mm
- Aperture 1/2,5
- Quartz halogen lamps 150-400 W.
Circular Patterns
The test for optical distortion detailed in ECE Regulation 43 calls for a matrix of clear dots on an opaque background to simulate oncoming headlights. These can be produced to accommodate various focal lengths.
Grid lines
Slides with inclined lines are used in both BS 857 & DIN 52305 standards for testing angular deviation. Horizontal lines are used to test for refractive power.
