OPTICAL STRESS

MEASUREMENT

EQUIPMENT

Desktop Polarimeter, PS-100-Digivideo

Used for:

Visual inspection and measurement of stresses in glass and plastic.

Residual stresses can enhance a product making it stronger, or contribute to the product’s failure.

The PS-100 Macrovideo Polarimeter system is ideal for a wide variety of applications in evaluating residual stress, strain and birefringence in transparent and translucent materials

Application:
  • Verify annealing state of glass or plastic containers, tubing, lenses, lamps, etc.
  • Measure optical retardation in order to calculate stress or birefringence using plane or circular polarization
  • Study distribution and magnitude of compressive and tensile stresses in float glass, glass seals, quartz, and advanced materials, as well as in molded and sheet plastics
  • Comply with worldwide polarimetry standards and test methods, including ASTM C148, F218, and D4093

Principle of operation:

PS-100 measures and displays residual stress through a glass or plastic sample. It is a modular instrument with a wide range of accessories, which enables a full range of measurement tasks.

Features:

The procedure is non-destructive and can be used on flat or curved glass or plastic.

Technical characteristics:
  • Plane (linearly) and circular polarized illuminator with a 7.5 in x 7.5 in (190 mm x 190 mm) sample stage
  • SA-100 Senarmont analyzer for both plane and circular polarization and swing-out accessory shoe
  • Digital USB camera with 10:1 zoom lens
  • Imaging software

Available options include boom-stand mount, full-wave tint plate, monochromatic filter, and immersion cell
